Introduction Outputs of this programme comprise: Good Practice Guide - The results of extensive research are brought together here as a series of topic-related Fact Sheets. They set the current urban scene for the specific topic each covers and suggest ways and means within that topic towards achieving sustainable mixed use core area development. Main Report - The report looks at the ways in which sustainable low-income housing and small business accommodation can be integrated with new commercial developments in a range of contexts. Publications - Contributions to a number of key publications/dissemination of research findings on the subject of good practice in core area development. Country Studies - The findings of extensive research and fieldwork. The research identified appropriate core area sites within each city and used detailed interviews with the resident low-income populations to investigate the social and economic nature of livelihoods in the core areas of cities. Video - Tells
the shocking story through interviews over a three year 'before and after'
period with many of the 12,000 citizens of Motia Khan squatter settlement
during their clearance from the centre of Delhi and relocation to the
outskirts far from their work and contacts. Livelihoods, income, education,
social cohesion and inappropriate housing are forcefully discussed on
site by the people affected. All of these outputs, with the exception of the video, may
